Appointments in the Orthodontic Office

We understand that patients in orthodontic treatment have other important obligations during the day. However, during active orthodontic treatment, we will need to see you every 5-8 weeks, and some of these appointments may conflict with work or school.

Patients (and parents) must maintain a regular schedule of appointments, as careful monitoring is necessary during orthodontic treatment. Once treatment is underway, appointments will vary in length from 30 minutes to an hour every 5-8 weeks. School excuse forms are provided as a convenience in keeping with your school’s attendance policy. Most schools have been very cooperative in this matter and share our concern about improving their students’ dental health.

Appointments are made exclusively for you and a block of time is set aside so that the office, staff and doctor are completely at your disposal for the treatment procedure. Appointments are confirmed by telephone the previous day. We expect our patients to attend every appointment and be on time so as not to delay our schedule. Should it be impossible for you to attend an appointment, please inform our office at least 48 hours in advance so that another patient can be moved into your time slot. Repeated missed or cancelled appointments will prolong treatment (and may necessitate additional fees). We try to see all our patients at their scheduled times.

Because our schedule is carefully designed, your late arrival can pose a problem. In these instances, we will make every effort to accommodate you, however in such cases we may sometimes need to reschedule your appointment.

We schedule longer appointments during school and/or working hours and shorter appointments before/after school and/or working hours. By doing this, we avoid reserving the entire afternoon for one or two patients, and are able to accommodate as many patients as possible for after school appointments. If you prefer to come to the office during a quieter time, please schedule an appointment during school hours.

If a patient cancels or misses an after school appointment and chooses to reschedule for another after school appointment, there may be a wait of a month or more. This could prolong the total treatment time.

We encourage feedback about our scheduling system and/or about any other area of our practice. Your suggestions will help us improve our service!
